About this Kominka
Built at the end of the Edo period, it is a family of hanno and toji.At the time, the owner lived in a neighboring tribe, a five-minute drive away, and was a working man; his wife ran a store, and his grandmother lived in the house. No vacancies for 150 years.
This property was acquired from dozens of potential properties 25 years ago when I was eager to live in an old thatched house in the countryside after retirement. We are looking for someone who loves wildflowers, flowers, and trees.
I visited a private home with an open garden on a trip to New Zealand with my wife to commemorate our retirement, and was inspired to create a plant garden. Sometimes I have about 50 visitors a year, including family members and old friends. Since then, he has put special emphasis on the planting of his garden, which was featured in the June 2019 issue of the Niigata Nippo's “Carrel” as an open garden together with the activities of the Kashiwazaki Botanical Friends.
The tea room (Urasenke's Toin seat imitation) floor post, black pine bark cover, 4.5 tatami mats, built in 2004, ceiling height, walls, color, shoji, Irori (placed and chair type) and table, two zelkova beams spanning two rooms, six daikoku-bashira (zelkova) are 24cm square are the key points of the property. Currently, the boiler in the bath was damaged by the Chuetsu earthquake (and was not repaired afterwards because the hot springs in the neighborhood are good for living alone). As for lifelines, toilet flush and sewer main line were installed in 2002.
